On April 26 Jean-Francois Dupras will be presenting to some of our students. Since his early childhood, he has always been passionate about sports and the outdoors. His spirit of adventure allowed him to discover the Canadian Rockies at the age of 20. Having suffered from severe depression as a teenager and now being treated for ADHD and a mood disorder, mental health and suicide prevention are causes that are close to his heart. Through his presentations and adventures, he wants to help people understand that mental illness is like any other disease. That no matter our past, our life challenges, and fears, everything is possible. Life is like climbing a mountain... hard to climb, but the incredible view from the top is worth it.
Everyone is welcome to join us for St. Anthony's Parish Garage Sale on April 30.
Thank you to all our Grade 7 students and Mr. Siaotong for their excellent performance of the Stations of the Cross. The Stations of the Cross are a 14-step Catholic devotion that commemorates Jesus Christ's last day on Earth as a man. The 14 devotions, or stations, focus on specific events of His last day, beginning with His condemnation. The stations are commonly used as a mini pilgrimage as the individual moves from station to station. At each station, the individual recalls and meditates on a specific event from Christ's last day. Specific prayers are recited, then the individual moves to the next station until all 14 are complete.
This year our Grade One classes had the opportunity to watch fertilized chicken eggs hatch in their classroom. As you can see from the smiling faces, everyone enjoyed this very much. The students were all very gentle with the chicks. What a wonderful way to teach our students how to be kind and gentle.

Congratulations to Mrs. Akerboom who will be retiring at the end of this school year and great news, the new Principal for next school year is someone we all know and love, Mrs. Schrock. Congratulations to Mrs. Celeste Schrock who has accepted the position of Principal of St. Anthony's School. After graduating from the Nova Scotia Teachers College in 1997 with a Bachelor of Education, Celeste moved west to begin her teaching career at St. Anthony’s School as a junior high PE and Math teacher. In 2001 she completed her Masters of Education in Curriculum & Instruction from Mount St. Vincent University. In 2005, when a second Vice-Principal position was added to the school, Celeste was given the opportunity to join the school administrative team. She has served in that role ever since. Over the years Mrs. Schrock has taught a range of grades from elementary to high school and a variety of subjects. Celeste shares, “St. Anthony’s School has a long history of high-quality, Catholic Education in the Drumheller Valley. It is an honor to be given the responsibility of continuing that tradition as the next Principal.” Superintendent Dr. Scott Morrison shares, “Celeste is a long-serving and talented member of the St. Anthony’s School community. She is a master teacher with superb interpersonal skills, and she’s committed to maintaining St. Anthony’s level of excellence.” Celeste will begin her transition to St. Anthony's School in the spring. All staff are invited to reach out and congratulate Celeste on her new position. May the Lord bless you and keep you; May the Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; May the Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace. - The Book of Numbers
Thank you to Madame Dube and our elementary students who create this wall of flowers in support of peace in Ukraine. God of peace and justice, We pray for the people of Ukraine. We pray for peace and the laying down of weapons. We pray for all those who fear for tomorrow, that your Spirit of comfort would draw near to them. We pray for those with power over war or peace, for wisdom, discernment and compassion to guide their decisions. Above all, we pray for all your precious children, at-risk and in fear, that you would hold and protect them. We pray in the name of Jesus, the Prince of Peace. Amen.
The Salvation Army has once again invited us to participate in Kilo for Kindness. All our classes are participating and we hope that our school community will once again give so generously.

This year we have chosen Maris Weir for the Christian Witness Award. The first mark of an excellent Catholic teacher is to recognize that each person is created in the image of God. Maris is a witness to this mark every day in her grade 1 class. Her classroom culture is welcoming to all and every student is honoured and celebrated for their uniqueness. She is attentive to the needs of her students and is never too busy to listen to a story, share a laugh, or comfort a worry. Her grade 1’s learn that diversity is part of community, it is heartwarming to see her class welcome a new student. Morning prayer is a special time and her students’ prayer intentions reflect her impact on their faith formation. Through her modelling of compassion and gratitude, her students always pray for the care and well-being of others and give thanks to God. Congratulations Maris! #FaithDay2022 #catholiced
