French
Christ the Redeemer Catholic Schools is committed to French learning as an expression of our Canadian identity. Students will develop French language proficiency and an appreciation for French culture in, and beyond, the classroom. Throughout our division, students will experience excellent instruction through various French programs.
At St. Anthony’s School, French as a Second Language is taught to all K through 6 students. The students receive instruction 3 times a week for approximately 30 minutes totaling about 60 hours of French instruction per year. The program is based on the neurolinguistics approach which emphasizes oral competency and is delivered through a series of themes at different grade levels. In the absence of curriculum for K - 3, the Manitoba Program of Studies is utilized whereas the Alberta Program of studies is used for grades 4 through 6. All students are encouraged to speak French through songs, rhymes and actions. French culture is also explored and the students learn a great deal of Canadian history.
